Grade 1 willow comes from the straightest, most evenly grained timber — fewer knots, tighter grain consistency, and a cleaner, more responsive surface than lower-grade alternatives. The straight grain structure means the wood fibres run parallel to the face of the bat, which is what gives a bat its performance — the ability to compress under impact and spring back, transferring energy into the ball efficiently.

Knock-In and Oiling Before First Use
All Grade 1 English Willow bats — including the King of the Jungle 2.0 — must be knocked in and oiled before use in match conditions. Apply raw linseed oil to the face, edges, back, and toe (not the splice or handle) and allow it to soak in for 24 hours. Repeat two to three times before beginning the knocking-in process. Knock in progressively with a bat mallet — light taps first, building to harder strikes over several sessions — before facing any hard ball. Skipping or rushing this process risks cracking and splitting a blade that would otherwise last for several seasons of proper use.
